The name Stone Town (Stone Town) is not the name of the entire modern city, but only its old historical part. But by the end of the 17th century, they again began to actively displace the Arabs, gradually over Zanzibar established the rule of the Omani Sultanate, and later it was separated from the separate - Zanzibar. Then, in 1890m over it was established British protectorate, which was removed only in 1964. Around that time old Zanzibar began to be called Stone Town - Stone Town - because unlike the local villages, it had many stone buildings.
