7:30 AM Departure from the hotel. Located in a disputed territory between Cambodia and Thailand, temple Preah Vihea — One of the most outstanding creations of the Khmer Empire.It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List as an independent cultural site. The uniqueness of the temple is expressed in its architectural design that blends with the natural environment, allowing the temple to fulfill its religious function, as well as in the high artistic value of the stone-carved decorative elements. The temple is located on top of a 650-meter mountainfrom here, you can enjoy a stunning view of the northwestern part of the country. There is a small military base on the temple grounds, with separate military cottages and an observation point for Thai border guards. Military personnel will accompany you everywhere. But don't be alarmed! This will only make your journey more unconventional. The temple is officially open to tourists. Preah Vihear was started by Jayavarman I in 893. He built the temple of Shiva, Shikharesvara, which translates to "God of the Summit." Subsequent kings of the Khmer Empire, including Suryavarman II and the spiritual mentor and advisor Divakarapandita, restored old structures and constructed new ones.
