Description

9:00 AM departure from the hotel. Who are the Singaporeans, and where did they come from? You'll find the answers to these questions by visiting three historic neighborhoods in Singapore: Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Glam. These districts reflect the rich cultural and ethnic history of the island dating back to the 19th century.
We will begin our tour by visiting the "Little India" district. As soon as you step into "Little India," you won't be able to miss the "Indianness" of this place: the aromas of spices and herbs, fragrant jasmine garlands; the shine of silver and copperware; the extraordinary colors of silk saris and the glint of gold bangles. All of this explosion of colors and scents will transport you in an instant to the real India.
Next, our path leads to "Kampong Glam," a little piece of the Middle East in Singapore; it's also known as the Arab Quarter. Once, there was a fishing village at the mouth of the Rochor River, but due to strong Arab-Malay influence, the village transformed into a Muslim trading district.
Quarter. It is here that the palace of the Malay royalty of Istana is located, which now houses the Malay History Center. The glittering golden dome of the Sultan's Mosque can be seen here
Currently, it is the largest mosque in Singapore, and it is here that the major celebrations for Hari Raya are held annually after Ramadan. You will stroll along the famous Bussorah Street and try traditional Malay tea, Teh Tarik, at one of the many cafes located in the historic shop houses. Next, you will visit the Chinese Quarter, where immigrants from southern China settled in the early 19th century. Today, the Chinatown district is a mix of old houses, shops, and ultra-modern offices, teahouses, and pubs. Here, as everywhere in Singapore, you can feel the blend of multiple cultures and civilizations: Chinese temples coexist with mosques. You will visit the oldest Hindu temple, Sri Mariamman, dedicated to the rain goddess, protector against diseases and epidemics. You'll stroll through the streets of the Chinese Quarter and learn about "coolies," "rickshaws," and "sam suys." We'll return to the hotel around 13:00.
